A Jazzy Thursday at SMC
It was another beautiful and sunny day here at SMC! Students in both the Arabic and Spanish academies had a typical morning and afternoon of classes, cultural exploration, and activities. We were lucky enough to hold the majority of our activities outside today because of the beautiful weather - soccer, chalk drawing, extreme napping, frisbee, tennis, and even hair/nail studios took place in the quad and on the sports fields. Inside, students let loose during dance fitness, studied Arabic musicians, or relaxed during coloring/drawing. Photos from these activities can be found above and in our Facebook album.
At night, the Spanish Academy’s typical day turned into a grand fiesta! The students were visited by an 11-man Latin Jazz Orchestra. The orchestra played live music, and the floor was cleared for dancing and singing with friends. It was so much fun to be in the middle of this event! It seemed like almost everyone in the room was dancing, smiling, and in a good mood thanks to the fantastic music. The band even fielded requests (one student asked for Suavemente!) and played their own rendition of camp-favorite “Despacito”, which elicited many excited screams and singing from the crowd.
