Middlebury Interactive's curriculum was developed by academics at Middlebury College's renowned Language Schools, which for nearly 100 years has enabled business leaders, diplomats and educators to master world languages and make deep connections with global cultures. We have translated that approach to the K-12 setting through our school-based online courses and summer academies. The Middlebury method uses immersion learning to help students gain a stronger base of comprehension and to accelerate language acquisition. Middlebury's language immersion teaching methodology is proven, academic and curriculum-based; our courses and programs align with national standards set by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL). This rigorous academic approach sets Middlebury Interactive apart from other world language providers.
Middlebury Interactive's online courses are supported by decades of research showing that students need exposure to authentic materials and frequent opportunities to interact in the target language in order to succeed. Course offerings deliver real-world reading, writing, listening and speaking activities in a digital format. Our summer academies employ the Middlebury Language Pledge, which requires students to speak, read and interact exclusively in their target language for the entire duration of the academies. Our No English Spoken Here policy best summarizes this approach and it works: Residential Academies have proven to deliver students with one full year of language learning in just four weeks.
