MMLA Will Fast-Track You To Achieving Your Goals

May 6, 2014

When I signed up for MMLA I had no idea how I was going to use Chinese in my future, or even if I was going to continue it into university. I only knew that I had the eventual objective of fluency and that I wanted to improve as much as I could. Aside from exceeding my expectations for improving my language skills, my experience at MMLA made a huge difference in how I look at learning Chinese in the future.

During MMLA I jumped a level in overall fluency, from Intermediate Mid to Intermediate High, in the most challenging and rewarding learning environment I’ve ever been in. I also gained a much better understanding of my strengths and weaknesses in the language, which has helped me to target my learning during the year. I now have a new perspective on the possibilities for continuing my language learning in the future, which definitely includes studying Mandarin in university and using it in my career.

Whatever your reason for learning a new language, MMLA will fast-track you to achieving your goals. Whether you know for sure that you’re going to be a multi-lingual translator working with the United Nations, or you just want to get into AP language class, summer at MMLA will definitely change your outlook on language learning for the better.

Katya Pollock is a ninth grade student from Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada. Last summer, she attended MMLA at Green Mountain College to improve her Mandarin Chinese proficiency. Outside of MMLA, Katya studies Mandarin with an at-home tutor. This summer, she’s enrolled in the Chinese Academy at Swarthmore.
